UPDATE REGARDING FIRE:
The Lord started a new and unexpected chapter in the life of His local body at Pleroma Bible Church. On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, the church building was destroyed by fire. The sanctuary was entirely consumed by fire and the remaining portions of the building were heavily damaged by smoke and water. Most importantly, by the grace of God, no one was hurt.
As to the cause of the fire, two members of the congregation came to the building and found the electricity was not on in the main part of the building. Once Tullahoma Utility Authority arrived, it was discovered that the meter was missing. TUA restored power and the fire began almost immediately. The fire department was called and they arrived quickly and did an excellent job containing the fire. The cause was electrical in nature. Although the theft of the meter set in motion the series of events that led to the fire, there is no reason to believe at this time that anyone intended to start the fire. The exact reason the fire started is unknown. Several theories are under review by local officials as the investigation continues.
Beginning Sunday, June 25, 2017, we will meet in the chapel at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home. Our annual July 4th Conference will be held there as well. We cannot thank those at Daves-Culbertson enough for their generosity.
We want to thank all of our brethren in Christ that have offered so much support to us. The outpouring of brotherly love for this small local body has been overwhelming. We would also like to acknowledge and express gratitude to the Tullahoma Fire Department for their selfless efforts to limit the damage to the extent that they were able, as well as the Tullahoma Police Department and other police agencies for their investigation into the theft and cause of the fire.
Many have asked about what they can do to help and our insurance status. As to the insurance, we do have coverage. Because we were in transition from a rental policy to an owner’s policy, the extent of the coverage is unknown. We may not be entirely covered for the loss but should have coverage for most of the value of the building. Our top need is for prayers as we make decisions that will best serve the Lord in this process and for humility and patience to trust the Lord’s plan in this transition. As we learn of other needs, we will share them as appropriate. For those who want to support financially, we have established a temporary PayPal account to facilitate that showing of love. It can be accessed through this website. Thank you all for your prayers and support.
